Frequently asked questions about our courses

Do I need to have completed Level 1 to start Level 2?

A valid Level 1 certificate is the entry requirement for the Level 2 course. The Level 2 course builds directly on the knowledge and skills learned in Level 1.

The Difference Between Level 1 and Level 2 in a Nutshell:

  • Level 1 teaches you the "language" of thermography: You will learn how to operate the camera correctly and collect reliable data (thermal images). It focuses on implementation.
  • Level 2 teaches you "grammar" and "story writing." You will learn the deeper assumptions, physics principles and how to analyze and quantify complex situations. It focuses on interpretation, analysis and procedure design.

This is a common question. Even with years of practical experience you must start with the Level 1 course.

Here are the two main reasons for this:

  1. It is an Official Requirement: The Infrared Training Center (ITC) sets a valid Level 1 certificate as a mandatory entry requirement for participation in the Level 2 course. Without this certificate, you cannot be admitted to the Level 2 exam. The certification pathways are standardized worldwide and must be followed step by step.
  2. It Creates a Common Ground: The Level 1 course does more than just explain the basics. It ensures that everyone, regardless of background or experience, learns the same fundamental theory, terminology and standardized inspection procedures. This is essential to understanding the advanced concepts of Level 2.

In fact, your experience is a huge advantage for the Level 1 course!

You are likely to pick up the practical components very quickly. The course offers you the perfect opportunity to link your practical experience to official theory, discover the "why" behind the "how," and formalize your skills with an internationally recognized certificate. Think of it as validating and reinforcing the knowledge you already possess.
