How about something different with thermography? A thermal imaging camera that converts infrared energy into a thermal image is useful for a wide range of applications. Detecting construction-related problems, maintaining electrical installations, fire prevention, science, medical applications, gas visualization, process monitoring, and so much more.
Freshmen Media asked us if Thermal Focus could help them capture the positive energy of a unifying sport. Cheering fans, athletes, and a great vibe were captured using various high-end thermal imaging cameras from Teledyne FLIR. Using various FLIR T-series cameras , they created this beautiful end result on behalf of their client.
Freshmen Media is an Amsterdam-based production company that has been creating content for a wide range of markets and audiences since 2007. In recent years, they have mainly specialized in younger audiences, lifestyle, and sports. They stand out in the market for their fresh, cheerful, and colorful approach without losing sight of quality and cinematic feel.
Joep and Jeff of Freshmen Media went looking for thermal cameras for their client's project. “We were contacted by one of our regular clients, creative agency in sports One: Nil, for an assignment at Ajax.”, Joep tells us. “It's a long-standing collaboration in which the client gives us a lot of creative freedom to take projects to a new level.”
The project was part of a larger project and involved an extra shirt and matching clothing line from Adidas and ID&T, based on 750 years of Amsterdam and the connection between the city, Amsterdam nightlife, and dance music. “With a design inspired by heat patterns of the human body, the choice to carry this through into the video was almost a given.”, said Joep.
The idea of combining live images with thermal imaging quickly took form, and that's how Freshmen Media ended up at Thermal Focus. “Because we didn't want to recreate this in post-production, but wanted to capture it on camera, we started looking for a company that could help us with so-called heatcams. That's how we ended up at Thermal Focus, who had exactly what we were looking for.”
Together with Freshmen Media, we started looking for the suitable cameras for their project. During the demonstrations, we compared different cameras and lenses in terms of quality, but also in terms of flexibility and mounting options. The video had to be filmed visually and thermally at the same time. This meant that the thermal cameras had to be mounted on the film cameras. That's how we ended up with the FLIR T530, T560 and T865 thermal imaging cameras. These user-friendly, ergonomic cameras are easy to mount and provide a beautiful, clear, high-quality image.
The shoot for the clothing line took place in an interactive museum. The video was then played in the stadium when the players wearing the new clothing line entered the field. This entrance and the accompanying light and fireworks show were also captured with the film cameras with the thermal cameras mounted on top. “During the match, we edited and mixed these images to create a unique compilation video.”, said Jeff from Freshmen Media.
